Product Developer – New Product Developmentnt

Frimley, Surrey | Hybrid (1 day WFH) | £35,000–£65,000

A hands-on, creative NPD role within a specialist nutritional supplements business — open to Product Developers and Senior Product Developers.

Our client is a well-established business operating within the nutritional supplements industry. They are looking to appoint either a Product Developer or a Senior Product Developer to join their New Product Development team at their Frimley head office. The salary range of £35,000–£65,000 reflects this flexibility — and the right level of appointment will be shaped by the experience and background of the successful candidate.

What matters most across both levels is the right combination of technical knowledge, practical capability and genuine passion for nutrition and supplements.

This is a varied, practical role. You will work closely alongside the NPD team on projects spanning canned drinks, nutritional gels, sprays and powder-based supplements — from initial customer brief through to recipe development, sampling and handover to production. You will also work directly with the supply chain to source ingredients and cost products, and get hands-on in the development kitchen.

What the role involves

  • Working within the NPD team on all new and existing product development projects

  • Formulating new products based on customer briefs, with knowledge of ingredient organoleptic properties and cost

  • Creating and sending customer samples, maintaining accurate recipe sheets and logging all required information

  • Adapting product recipes based on customer feedback

  • Creating product specification sheets for customers

  • Sourcing and quoting ingredients and packaging used in the manufacture of each product

  • Ensuring the smooth transition of projects from product development to production

  • Performing pre-production organoleptic tests

About you

The right candidate will be creative and logical in equal measure — someone who is naturally organised, highly self-motivated and thrives working as part of a small, close-knit team. You will be personable, humble and genuinely passionate about supplements, fitness and nutrition. A naturally clean and tidy approach to working is essential for this role, given the development kitchen environment.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • At least 2 years' NPD experience within the nutritional supplements industry, working across both liquid and powder formats

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food science, food technology or a related discipline

  • Product formulation skills and knowledge of ingredient organoleptic properties

  • Sound understanding of nutrition, dietetics and the nutritional supplements sector

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and solid numerical ability

Desirable:

  • Project management skills

  • Interest and experience in process scale-up from laboratory to factory

The package

  • Salary: £35,000–£65,000 depending on experience and level

  • Hybrid working (1 day WFH)
