Executive Hurdles Recruitment is exclusively working with a major UK financial institution to appoint a Senior Software Engineer into their front office trading technology team.

This is a high-impact modernisation mandate — working on a business-critical FX options booking system that handles the full trade lifecycle from vanilla to complex options, market data management, reporting and end-of-day valuation. The team is mid-way through a significant technology transformation: moving from a legacy .NET Framework and Oracle stack onto .NET Core and Google Cloud Platform, with full modernisation targeted by early 2028. There is significant work ahead — 50% modernisation, 50% new feature delivery — and this is a hands-on role at the centre of it.

You will contribute to both legacy and modern codebases, bring real cloud migration experience, and help define the architecture and roadmap for a complex, business-critical platform.

The Role

Senior Software Engineer — Front Office FX Trading Technology

  • Salary: Up to £120,000 base | 10% flexible benefits | 10% pension | Bonus

  • Location: Hybrid — London office, one day per week (Fridays)

  • Team: 4 engineers based in London + 5 in India + QA team + dedicated support function

What the Role Involves

  • Enhancing and modernising a critical front office FX options booking system — handling trade capture, lifecycle management, market data, reporting and end-of-day valuation

  • Migrating a predominantly .NET Framework codebase to .NET Core on Google Cloud Platform — currently 15% modernised, targeting full completion by early 2028

  • Transitioning from Oracle to SQL Server / Postgres as part of the platform simplification programme

  • Delivering new features alongside modernisation — 50/50 split across legacy and new codebases

  • Designing and engineering complex software, scripts and tools with a focus on automation, simplification, resilience, security, scalability and performance

  • Influencing architecture strategy at domain and enterprise levels, identifying transformation opportunities across the technology estate

  • Working closely with the team lead on significant, complex and technically demanding assignments

  • Gaining senior stakeholder exposure alongside hands-on technical delivery

What We Are Looking For

  • Significant hands-on experience in C# and .NET — ideally gained within banking or complex financial systems — essential

  • Proven experience migrating legacy .NET Framework applications to modern .NET platforms — essential

  • Cloud migration experience — GCP or AWS — essential

  • Database design and development: Oracle, SQL Server or Postgres — essential

  • Experience working in a DevOps and Agile framework — essential

  • Test-driven development: automated test frameworks, mocking, stubbing and unit testing — essential

  • Experience designing or implementing APIs — essential

  • Able and willing to work across both legacy and modern codebases simultaneously — essential

  • Strong ability to translate complex product and business requirements into technical solutions — essential

  • Experience in a front office trading, capital markets or financial services technology environment — highly desirable

Interview Process

  • Stage 1: 30–45 minute technical call — includes a code walkthrough element

  • Stage 2: Face-to-face — 2-hour technical and CV-based interview in London
