About the Opportunity

Executive Hurdles Recruitment is supporting a specialist clinical trial supply business with the recruitment of an experienced Key Account Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of key client accounts and drive continued growth within a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

 

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Trial Supply, this is a commercially driven, relationship-led role with full ownership of key client accounts from initial engagement through to project delivery. You will act as the primary point of contact for your clients, anticipating their needs, ensuring clinical trial projects are delivered to specification, and driving both revenue and gross profit growth across your portfolio.

 

This opportunity would suit an experienced account manager with a background in clinical trial services, pharmaceutical supply, or a related healthcare environment, who is passionate about delivering exceptional service and building long-term client relationships.

 

Please note: No regular travel is required for this role. Occasional attendance at industry expos and conferences would be expected.

 

Working Pattern

​

  • If local to Burton-on-Trent: Hybrid working — office based on Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • If fully remote: One day per month in the Burton-on-Trent office for a team day and social evening

  • Monday to Friday

 

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Managing a portfolio of key client accounts — developing relationships, generating revenue and gross profit growth, and supporting the successful delivery of clinical trial projects to specification

  • Ensuring yearly growth targets are met within your client accounts, working closely with the Head of Clinical Trial Supply for guidance and support

  • Maintaining accurate project records within the in-house ERP system to optimise tracking of commercial and sourcing activities

  • Developing and maintaining KPIs for your client accounts utilising a range of reporting tools

  • Reporting on client health and progress against KPIs on a monthly basis

  • Actioning all client complaints immediately and in line with documented procedures

  • Ensuring the highest level of service is delivered to clients and that service levels are actively monitored

  • Leading and participating in client weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings

  • Leading strategic global sourcing activities in line with client requirements, liaising with the audited supplier network

  • Proactively negotiating product pricing, payment terms, and product access

  • Liaising with approved logistics providers and the internal Logistics team to arrange robust shipping solutions for clinical study material to sites worldwide

  • Developing strong relationships across internal and external organisations

  • Proactively contributing ideas for continuous improvement

  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of SOPs and role-relevant policies and procedures

  • Engaging in ongoing training opportunities to enhance and expand skills essential to the role

 

Required Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven track record in developing client accounts and building lasting commercial relationships

  • Strong commercial and business awareness

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A passion for delivering customer-centric service levels

  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative, while being a strong team player

  • Excellent self-planning and organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure

  • Proactive approach to resolving challenges and developing practical solutions

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Proficient in MS Office and computer systems, including CRM and inventory management tools

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in clinical trial services, pharmaceutical supply, or the wider healthcare industry

  • Degree level education (appreciated but not mandatory)

  • Knowledge of standards such as ISO and regulations within the clinical trial supply field

  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous improvement
